General Outdoor Recreation Regulations


 

DAILY OUTDOOR RECREATION PERMIT $8.00

AFFILIATE ANNUAL OUTDOOR RECREATION PERMIT $150.00
 
Reservation Outdoor Recreation Permit are available for other miscellaneous outdoor activities.  The following list of outdoor activities are allowed in open areas as long as each vehicle/person has a valid Tribal permit of any time ( Outdoor Recreation, Fishing, Hunting, Camping, etc.).  Black and Salt River Recreation access requires Special Use Permits

HIKING, PICNICKING, AND TUBING

  • OPEN AREA:  Hiking is allowed from designated campgrounds and along perennial streams or lakes.  All area are open to picnicking, except Mount Baldy Wilderness Area and areas otherwise posted as "CLOSED".
  • Tubing is allowed only on the Salt River downstream from the Salt River bridge (Highway 60).  Tubers are required to wear an approved PFD and fully assume all risk associated with navigating this wild river.  Special Use Permit is Required.

BICYCLING (NON-MOTORIZED ONLY) OPEN AREA.

CLOSED DURING HUNTING SEASON
  • PARADISE AREA:  This area is located south of Horseshoe Lake, and is bound by Route 78 on the south and Northfork of the White River on the north.
  • FORESTDALE AREA:  This are includes Routes 65, 66, 67 and 68, all east of US Highway 60.
  • HAWLEY LAKE:  between Highway 473 and R27 and R76 between Highway 473 and R27.
  • SALT RIVER:  on route G1 (requires Special Use Permit).
  • SUNRISE SKI PARK:  Various biking trails and competitive mountain courses are available during the summer months.  Contact Sunrise Park Resort for details (928) 735-7669.
  • DESIGNATED CAMPGROUNDS:  Biking is allowed in and around established campgrounds on existing roadways and/or designated trails ONLY.

BIKING REGULATIONS

  • Biking is allowed on established roads ONLY.
  • For your own safety, biking is not allowed at night.
  • Biking is not allowed in Primitive Camping Areas, the Mount Baldy Wilderness Area or other areas posted as "CLOSED".

HORSEBACK RIDING OPEN AREAS

  • Horseback Riding on the Reservation is restricted to facilities or activities designated for such purposes, such as: Outfitted trail rides, Tribal sanctioned Rodeos, etc.

SIGHTSEEING/DRIVING OPEN AREAS

  • Reservation roads are open to vehicles except those in CLOSED areas including the Mount Baldy Wilderness Area.
  • Cross Country Skiing, ONLY on railroad bed.
