Water Report Recommendations / Tips

A-1 Lake

Fair 

A-1 Lake is accessible at entrance, pass entrance road is covered with snow. Parts of A-1 Lake covered with thin ice. Try power eggs, salmon eggs or nightcrawlers. Try different lures like spinners with silver blade or spoons in brass finish.

Black River

Fair

A Special-Use Permit Is Required. Lower reaches are accessible. Try nightcrawlers, jigs and plastic crawdads in pools and deeper riffles near structures for smallmouth bass. Pack-It-In/Pack-It-Out. 

Bog Tank Fair 

Bog Tank is accessible. Try nightcrawlers or lime twist colored powerbait. Try spinners and spoons in bright colors. Try wet fly patterns. Day use only, no camping.

Bootleg Lake Fair Try chatter bait and soft bait for largemouth bass. Try chicken liver or stinkbait for channel catfish.
Christmas Tree Lake   Scheduled to open Memorial Day Weekend 2018. Call our office at (928) 338-4385 for more information.
Cooley Lake Fair Try swimbaits near weed mats for largemouth bass later in the day after water temps warm up. Try nightcawlers or stink bait for channel catfish. Try nightcrawlers or powerbait for rainbow trout.
Cyclone Lake  

Under our Rent-A-Lake program. Special fees, permits, and reservations required. Call the White Mountain Apache Game & Fish Dept. at (928) 338-4385 for reservation information or email us at outdoors@wmat.us. LAKE CLOSED UNTIL MAY 2018.

Drift Fence Lake   Drift Fence Lake is not accessible.

Earl Park Lake

  Arizona state route 473 is closed for winter.

Hawley Lake

  Arizona state route 473 is closed for winter.

Horseshoe Lake

Good  Horseshoe Lake is accessible. Parts of Horseshoe Lake covered with thin ice. Try nightcrawlers, charteuse colored powerbait, or salmon eggs. Try lures like kastmasters and mepp spinners. Boat anglers try nightcrawlers, powerbait, spoons, or wet fliy patterns.
Hurricane Lake   Under our Rent-A-Lake program. Special fees, permits, and reservations required. Call the White Mountain Apache Game & Fish Dept. At (928) 338-4385 or email us at outdoors@wmat.us for more information. Artificial flies and lures only, no treble hooks and no bait allowed. LAKE CLOSED UNTIL MAY 2018.
North Fork Ditch Camp   Ditch Camp is closed.
Pacheta Lake   Pacheta Lake is not accessible.
Reservation Lake   Reservation Lake is not accessible.
Salt River Fair A Special-Use Permit Is Required. Try night crawlers and jigs in riffles and pools. Try stink-bait or nightcrawlers for catfish. Pack-It-In/Pack-It-Out.

Shush Be Tou Lake

(Big Bear)

Fair  Big Bear Lake is accessible. Try nightcrawlers or yellow colored powerbait. Try lures like spoons or spinners like roostertails or panther martins. Try wet fly patterns. Boat ramp is not accessible. A few parts of Big Bear Lake covered with thin ince.

Shush Be Zahze Lake

(Little Bear)

Fair  Little Bear Lake is accessible. Try nightcrawlers, glitter powerbait, or lures like kastmaster spoons and roostertail spinners. Boat ramp accessible.

Sunrise Lake

Fair  Sunrise Lake is accessible. Portions of Sunrise Lake is covered with thin ice. Try nightcrawlers, charteuse powerbait power eggs, or salmon eggs. Try spoons like kastmasters and roostertail spinners. Boat ramps inaccessible. The Sunrise General Store is open.
Streams Fair Try nightcrawlers, spinners, and jigs in slower moving pool, deeper riffles with structures like rocks and logs. In lower elevation streams try nightcrawlers or jigs for smallmouth bass. Streams are running clear.

Tonto Lake

  Tonto Lake is not accessible.
Information   Arizona state route 473 is closed for winter. A valid White Mountain Apache Tribal Permit is required and must be carried at all times when fishing, boating, camping and other recreation activities on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. Permits can be obtained online or at permit vendor locations on and off the reservation. Firework possession and its use is prohibited on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation.
